Child Being Cared For

Health, Safety, and the Realities of Growing Up Montessori

At Language Garden Montessori, the health and safety of our children are our highest priorities. Our classrooms are designed to give children freedom to explore and learn while maintaining clear, consistent safeguards for their well-being.

Sometimes, this means acting quickly when health concerns arise. Other times, it means helping parents recognize that a small scratch or bruise is a normal part of active childhood. Both are part of the same commitment: to keep children safe, healthy, and able to grow with confidence.

Responding to Illness Swiftly and Effectively

When a contagious illness is suspected, our staff follows a clear, state-approved protocol. Children showing symptoms are taken to a quiet, comfortable area while parents are contacted right away and pick-up is arranged as quickly as possible. At the same time, all families are notified through our parent communication app so they can monitor their own children.

This process is designed to limit exposure while respecting the needs of each child and family. In recent cases, parents were notified within minutes, and the affected child was on the way home in under an hour. All of our lead teachers and administrators are trained in health and safety best practices, including infection control, pediatric first aid, and CPR, so they can respond calmly and effectively.

Understanding the Everyday Scrapes of Childhood

Montessori classrooms encourage independence, hands-on learning, and movement. As children pour water, carry materials, climb play structures, or garden outdoors, the occasional scratch or bump is a natural part of the process. These small experiences help children learn how to move safely, care for themselves, and adapt to the world around them.

We treat every incident with care, providing appropriate first aid and documenting it for parents. Families who were not present at the time receive notification through our communication app, along with any relevant details. Just as importantly, we help the child reflect and adjust so they can continue to explore with confidence.

Partnership Between Home and School

Keeping children healthy and safe is most effective when home and school work together. We ask parents to keep children home when they are ill, communicate about injuries or health changes, and trust that our staff will act quickly and carefully when something does happen.

In return, we promise transparency, rapid communication, and a nurturing environment where children can take the kinds of safe, measured risks that build resilience.

Final Thought

Childhood is full of growth, discovery, and the occasional unexpected moment. At Language Garden Montessori, we balance vigilance with the understanding that children need space to move, explore, and make mistakes. If you ever have questions about our health and safety practices — or about a specific incident — please reach out. We are always happy to explain our approach and work together to support your child’s well-being.
